Das Buch präsentiert ausgewählte Ergebnisse des "Training and Mobility Programme for Young Researchers" (TMR) zum Thema "Family and Welfare State in Europe", das vom Mannheimer Zentrum für Europäische Sozialforschung koordiniert und unterstützt wurde. TMR bildet Teil des vierten Rahmenprogramms der EU-Kommission, das sich von Oktober 1996 bis September 2000 erstreckte und an dem mehr als 30 junge Forscher aus 12 europäischen Ländern beteiligt waren.
